January 2012

Is it still a blog if one only posts once a month?

January was decidedly a crowded way to greet 2012. So I thought, if I could write only one update for the month, why don’t I highlight my very favorite moments? Here’s a visual of what I think of this idea:

January favorites

1. Seeing delightful and delighted Hutch literally beside himself at SLO Museum of Art. It’s such a kick to see a picture I took with my cell phone hanging at an art museum.

2. Realizing I’m not in small-town-SLO at the Santa Barbara bridal fair. I got the usual inquiries plus the more diverse: photographing quincenera a la wedding, wedding vow renewals, horror-movie-themed wedding, and one same-sex wedding. The best was one who asked if I’d be willing to shoot their engagement portraits while they’re shooting (with guns) in their ranch. I so totally love this gig! I’d have never met all these people or hear these stories stuck atop an ivory tower.

3. A GLEE-ful moment: I’m teaching two classes of Econometrics at Poly this quarter. At one point befuddled student said, “Professor, I’m just not getting this. Please, could we just go over it again. I just need you to …” He then got up, clutched his hands in front of him, and ala “Hootie and the Blowfish” belted: “I just need you to … hold my hand.”

4. Snow Day at Pacheco Elementary in sunny 79-degree weather: It became a race to see if the kinder kids could play with the snow before it all melted away.
